Prospect and Bectu teams from the UK dug deep into the possibilities of using Spotlight – our privacy respecting, worker empowering tool – at our event today. Unions can use Spotlight in their campaigns – track working time, use of work apps throughout the day, distance traveled for work and so much more.

Data is yours!

What’s so different about Spotlight is that the data is entirely the user’s. No third party data snooping, no hidden surveillance of you. You set the app to monitor what you want it to: your commute time, whether you are working whilst commuting, keep a log of working conditions, your wellbeing, keep track on screen time, distances traveled, whether you sit down too much – or too little.

📢 Inspiring afternoon setting out plans for worker tech & using #datagovernance to create worker voice with @CjColclough @jonniepenn & @ProspectUnion @bectu teams. We need to build new tools to make #futureofwork work for workers ✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 pic.twitter.com/S7Cu0Pjvam— Andrew Pakes (@andrew4mk) January 23, 2020

Spotlight – Wage Theft & Well-being

In union campaigns, for you alone, or as a challenge between colleagues, Spotlight will securely help you understand how much work is creeping into your private, or put differently, how much of our private lives we are freely given away to work? Wage-theft is a growing concern, and the top workplace crime in many of our countries. Our well-being is strained as the “always-on” culture never lets us switch off from work. Spotlight is all about helping you, and your unions, change this.

The Young Workers Lab – UNI Global Union

Spotlight will be publicly available as an opensource app in April 2020. It is being developed by the Young Workers Lab team at UNI Global Union. A multi-stakeholder driven experiment to empower workers through the responsible use of new tech. Check out our amazing tech and union advisors
